If you leave a key in a lock...

chances are a little boy will unlock it. And open the front door, of which it is a part.

He will go through the door. At 6:15 AM (or so). With his identical twin brother. Both of whom are carrying pot lids to use as cymbals. At 6:15 AM (or so). In their underwear.

They will have let the dog out of his kennel. The dog will escape through the front door while the boys are escaping out the front door. And go into the neighbors side yard, through their wrought iron gate.

The boys will ring the neighbors doorbell to get their dog back. No one answers. But the dog will run back through the gate all by himself.

The dog will find his way back into the house. Because the front door is still wide open. At 6:15 AM (or so). And make his way upstairs. He'll bark by the bed of the sleeping man until the man wakes up. And goes downstairs. To find the boys standing on the front walk looking at snails. In their underwear. With their cymbals.

The man will invite the boys to come back into the house. And close the front door behind them.

And chances are, when he closes the front door, he locks it. And removes the key.

(With apologies to Laura Joffe Numeroff and Felicia Bond)

MAN!

Wasn't there a story a few years ago where twin boys broke and entered into their neighbors house then trashed it trying to get a snack? Just think - it COULD've been worse ;)

Seriously. BOYS! ~shakes my head and mutters crazy talk~

This is what happens on the FIRST night I leave said man home alone with said twins. And yes, that is exactly like the scary story we read about when I was pregnant with the boys. We all laughed and thought it was hysterical, but could never happen to us. We were sooooooo wrong.........

So far our little dudes can't open the door - it's very airtight and we have those doorknob cover thingies that kids aren't supposed to be able to open...we'll see how long THAT lasts!

Oh my! Well, now I know what not to do :D I am going to get those door knob covers tomorrow I swear!

Too late for me. Rusty isn't quite 3, but can unlock the doors. Fortunately he still sleeps with us (and looks to have no intention of leaving, lol) and I'm a light sleeper, so I'd wake up if he left the bed. Good thing since we don't have round nobs on our doors. Built the house before kids, got those handles that are so easy to open, what WAS I thinking??

Good thing for that dog, eh Ma T?

Hmmm... that sounds like an all too familiar story, lol. Except replace twin boys with toddler girl. And a mom waking up to the screaming of a little girl on her front porch. Yes, a chain was installed on the door that very day. LOL

This reminds me of a book I once read. :)

We're looking back on this now and laughing, right?
