You may wish to scroll down to my previous post and read that one first, then come back and read this one.
The world that I live in now, is a much better world than the one that I just wrote about. In the world that I live in now, my daughter plays outside with her friends at recess. She runs in running club on Tuesday or Thursday mornings (I forget which) and has recently become a senior member of her martial arts class, outranking some older children because she has more experience then they do. She has little interest in video games (unless they are on Playhouse Disney), but spends much more time involved in physical activity than inside sitting at the computer.
On Saturday morning, one of the first things she did was to show me her loose tooth. It was not loose, so much as hanging by the thread of a tiny reluctant root. She nearly pushed it out of her mouth as she nudged it with her tongue in my direction. I resisted the urge to reach out and pluck it from her gum, and made some suitable comment.
A few moments ago, when I called home (after my previous blog post) I asked Theresa if any of my children wanted to speak to me. Without telling Mattea who it was, Theresa handed Mattea the phone. When she heard my voice, I sensed the excitement in her response. "Daddy, I swallowed my tooth today!" She was out playing at school today, and while doing a cartwheel (which she has become quite good at) or a handstand, her tooth fell out. She couldn't find it on the ground so she believes that she swallowed it. When I asked her how the tooth fairy would learn of this she said "I wrote her a note!"
