It's hell to get old

I am, if not much else, a creature of habit. When I find something I like, I keep going back to it. Like the Asian Chicken Salad at Jack in the Box.

When I am traveling, it is a rare week that I don't eat four or five of them from Monday through Friday. Some I have for lunch. Others dinner. So, really, that's only twenty-five or thirty percent of my meals. That's not too bad I suppose.

Sometimes, when I'm in between projects and working at home, I will eat tuna salad for lunch every day. It's easy and I like it. But back to the Asian Chicken Salad.

If you've not had one, it is, to a degree, a build it yourself meal. You get a plastic plate with a plastic lid enclosing a bed of lettuce, 3 raw red onion rings, 4 zuchinni rounds, about 2 ounces of shredded carrots, and a few ounces of mandarin orange slices. In addition, you get sealed packets of wonton noodles (which I always throw away), slivered almonds and Asian Chicken Salad dressing. I always lightly drizzle the salad dressing on the salad, and rarely will use more than half the packet. Served in a separate box are two small grilled chicken pieces to top your salad with. (You can choose crispy chicken strips if you wish, which I have never done, and probably never will.)

Earlier this week, I was eating one for dinner when, having consumed about half, I realized that I had not put my slivered almonds on. The remainder of my salad was almond rich!

Last night, I was almost two thirds of the way through my salad when I realized that I had neglected to add the chicken.

It's hell to get old.

(btw, the one I had for lunch today, I didn't forget to put anything on...)
